I just got this video in my email box…and I am perplexed.
“Et tu, Gary?”
Is that Gary or Colt Ford? Is he singing?
All of these old dudes are really busting their ass to try and stay relevant in this new “shitty” stage of country music. I am a HUGE Gary fan and I can’t wait to hear his new album, but this is a tad bit Aldean’y for my taste. It does seem like it is a fun, rocking song…especially in concert, I just hope he’s not trying too hard and coming off pathetic and obvious like Tim McGraw. Either way, Gary could sing Amazing Grace and I’d still be leaving snail trails…but I like it when people sing to me, not holler at me.
I guess I am just old. Damn, it sucks.
***Update***
I don’t particularly like this song. Sorry, I’m not sorry. I like the artist and like the songwriter…I particularity think this performance isn’t my thing. Either way I’d still hit it…but only if he kept the pink suit on.

i guess you never heard as the crow flies..similar
Sounds like yelling to me. I wasn’t carried away with it either, but I’ll take listening to Gary Allan take a shit in a port-a-potty over Colt Ford any day.
Your comment literally made me LOL….
I’m a fan of G’s, but the port a potty thing almost made me swallow my tongue!
First–I wonder at what age does someone become an “old dude”? At 44, I hardly consider Gary to be lumped in that category. Granted he’s not a young buck in his 20s like many of the hot newest artists, but to me an ” old dude” would be more of a senior citizen. Maybe that’s a matter of reasonable perception.
Second-While I did not fall in instant love with this song, I do like it quite a bit. I think the audio in this particular video does not do him or the song justice, makes him sound like he’s yelling more than he is. (Rapping? I didn’t hear anything close to rapping.) I like the spunk and attitude of it.
Third-Having heard some of his new music in concert and in his store last month, I can assure you that if you find this song too rocking, there are other great songs that are quintessential Gary Allan masterpieces on this next album. If you haven’t heard it already, look up videos of his singing “It Ain’t the Whiskey”–that is a song I knew first time I heard it would be joining my list of utmost favorite songs of his. I think it’s a testament to how good an artist he is that after being a fan for over 12 years, I’m just as, if not more so, excited about his new album as I was a decade ago. I really can’t wait until it is released!
I agree that the audio is bad on this one. It does have a dirt road anthem chant vibe going on. Gary has reinvented himself from a cowboy hat wearing crooner to a tattooed bad boy. If he is doing the Truck Yeah thing at least he can pull it off unlike Tim who just comes off stupid.
He is def. NOT rapping! I saw the song live Friday nite and instantly fell in love with it. It’s got a funky kind of vibe and is so fun in concert. I hope it stays on the set list. Gary sang 3 new songs and waiting for the new CD is KILLING me! Can’t wait to hear it all–over & over.
Gary Allan needs no tricks and follows no one. He will not be defined by anyone or anything. He doesn’t kiss ass like others just to gain popularity. He chooses his own road, and we are incredibly priviledged that he lets us come along for the ride. I, personally, hope he keeps raising that middle finger to the critics and naysayers. By sharing his unquestionable talent and making his own tracks, fans get something new, exciting, and timeless. Other artists only wish they were that cool.
this is a keith gattis song. same guy who wrote el cerrito place, big city blues, reconsider(charlie robison) california (brandon rhyder). I think its a cool song. Beats the alternative of this shitty uptempo stuff 95% of nashville is putting out as their singles.
This is a disservice to a great songwriter.
Gary might need to lay off the coke and the married groupie whores if he wants to keep up these up tempo songs before he has a heart attack.
Mary Katherine don’t get you green hat all toby keith wrecked… not everyone puts Gary on a fucking pedestal..I understand people evolve and change but he has gotten cocky and lazy in my opinion… again my opinion…
Cocky and lazy are two words that could never apply to Gary Allan. Walk a mile in his shoes before you judge someone. Better yet, if you want to cast stones–take a closer look at Brad Paisley, Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, or maybe even yourself.
so Gary deserves to be cocky? Everyone has their own road and can say walk in my shoes… as an artist he is cocky…I remember when he was humble… now matter how many times he thumps his chest, he is not humble.
As you sit here debating humility, it makes me wonder? Do you sit across the dinner table from him and truly know him? Do any of us? NO. We all have opinions based on our interactions with him. I can tell you, after seeing Gary live–well, more times than I can remember–he is still the same after all these years. All personal interactions I have had with him, his band, his staff and his management have left me, and many others, with a much different opinion than yours. You keep your negative attitude if it helps you get through your day. Those of us who have a different educated opinion are entitled to ours as well.
Once I realized ‘Best I Ever Had/Grey Sky Morning’ was written by Vertical Horizon, NOT Gary Allen, who renamed it ‘Best I Ever Had’ I felt duped. It’s phony to me that he used someone else’s song to sing about his wife’s suicide.
I wouldn’t classify that as phony myself. Sometimes the words are already out there that perfectly convey how you’re feeling. I write poetry And songs myself some. My ex girlfriend passed on about 6 years ago now and as hard as I’ve tried to write about the way I felt leaving the funeral. “Just Back From Hell” said everything that I felt in that moment. That’s the reason we all love music so much because of people singing and writing songs that meld right into our soul and never leave. (I’ll go back to being a smart ass, I hate being serious :)
While it is true that some fans put their favorite artists on pedastals, not all of them do. Those that appreciate Gary for his talents, his contributions to the industry, and charities understand that he is just a man with an extraordinary job. No delusions here. However, sounds like Vixen was under a very big delusion. Gary must have scorned her so she feels she must lash out irrationally on a blog! HA! Hope you sleep well at night after bad-mouthing a man that for all intents and purposes is just trying to live his life. So not cool…..
I think “Vixen” is his stalker…Kate?
Hey Vixen aka fencefucker. you are just pissed Gary never wanted your ass!!!
What’s a fencefucker?
Just because my life isn’t so pathetic that the only way I can make myself feel better is by tearing other people down and saying false shit about them (coughvixencough), and just because I choose to show my appreciation for someone whose body of work has brought much happiness and comfort to my life by focusing on his achievements and positive aspects instead of dwelling on his faults doesn’t mean I put him on a pedestal. If you truly knew me, you’d know who really is on my pedestal. Just as you are entitled to your opinion, let me have mine.
No Vixen’s name is Jennifer
If you are really a Gary Allan fan you will know he doesn’t give a rats ass about Music Row and their opinions. There is no way Gary is trying to be like Aldean or McGraw. What makes him so great is Gary’s attitude, it’s always been ‘I’m doin’ it my way, if you wanta come along for the ride, great.’ GFA (and if you don’t know what they means you REALLY are NOT a *big* fan of Gary) has not and will never be commercialized.
Not commercialized?
Have u seen the gay designer clothes he’s been wearing?
This song was written by a guy that writes for Kenny Chesney. Does it get more commercialized ?
Gary is in a business partnership that sells high end designer clothing–which there is a need for in Nashville. He wears some of the things from that store because he is comfortable in them on stage. I didn’t know anyone could be offended by a country music celebrity that wears anything other than ragged out muscle shirts or plaid flannel with Wranglers sporting a skoal ring. WOW…
Anyone that has paid attention knows that Gary chooses songs that he likes based on the song–not the songwriter. Until he starts purposely choosing someone else’s music other than his own based on who wrote it, I don’t think anyone should use the word “commercialized”.
This bunch of house frous are funny. I get being a fan. Go to the concerts, cry about not getting a meet and greet, take pictures & enjoy the show and go home but don’t think that your “GFA” or his band or his road crew thinks you are any different than the next bunch of house frous at the next show. Do they “know” you? Sure they do. You all have nicknames. They laugh at you. If you obsessive middle aged bores spent the time and energy you spend defending a singer on the Internet on your husbands and families your lives wouldn’t be so pathetic.
In your words, “I get it” about the whole fan thing. However, who are you to shit on something that makes others happy? Many fans have complete and full lives–full of good and bad. Some fans use their “me” time to defend and promote an artist that has brought them joy and even healing for the bad times. It’s called loyalty and appreciation. For you to call their lives pathetic is unconscionable and totally lacking in any respect for others.
I am assuming you are a roadie of some sort. Whenever I read ‘the help’ bashing the fan base of the band THEY WORK FOR I cannot believe you are not fired immediately. I have met roadies who are gentlemen and a credit to their band and profession. Fans and Housefraus make it possible for you to collect a paycheck you ignorant douche. We laugh at janky roadies like you all the way to our beautiful homes in our new cars. You are best friends with every STD on the planet and I bet your balls itch like hell…
i always look forward to new music from Gary Allan. i prefer the upbeat rockin tunes…that wiil never change. loved his music from the start..more power to him as he continues his career on his own terms :-)
