Aaron Watson has a “Real Good” week. His new album “Real Good Time” debuted at #9 on the Billboard Country Album chart.
(Please don’t ask me if this was before or after the chart changes or ANYTHING about that damn Billboard chart. I don’t get it, don’t want to get it and never even bothered to look at it until just recently and it is clear from talking with Billboard Bill yesterday, I don’t have an opinion on it. I’m just not that intellectual. Trust me, I am as shallow as a kiddie pool.)
Click HERE to read this week’s Billboard Biz Mid Week News article about Aaron that also mentions Pudding Pop and Troubadour, Tx golf legend/dream liver, Wade Bowen.
The song on the album that seems to be getting the most internet buzz is Aaron’s “rap” song, “Hey Y’all”:
“My girl is skinny but rhymes are phat.”
Knowing Aaron, the first time I heard this song I couldn’t stop laughing. The idea of Aaron Watson being a Country Pimp with gravy running down his chin was just the best visual ever! If these boys don’t make a video for this song with Aaron in a big purple velvet pimp coat, I am going to be devastated. Someone call Granger Smith and his brothers/camera crew and PLEASE make this happen.
And don’t let that Honky Tonk thing fool you, Aaron is a OG and can bust into some of The Chronic when he wants to. Check out the band at a sound check…and yes, that is really them playing:
Hmmm…what about a Texas vs. Nashville rap battle? Aaron and Colt Ford 8 Mile style?

He played it in concert last night here in Nacogdoches. It was funny to hear it on the album because it’s not what you would expect from him, but to hear it live and see the way he acts while singing it is priceless!
He played it in Gruene hall back in July and was hilarious. “No, don’t do that, if you sing along I’m gonna stop.”
He’s just hilarious. The real deal. Good wholesome, crazy fun…..and oh yeah, the man can SING!
