It is Tuesday. That means Josh is back from behind Frienemy Lines! As for my “rip roaring” good time…hmmm. I had a time, that’s for sure.

We got seven songs tracked and sung since my last post. Recording in Nashville is insane. Personally, it went a little too fast for me, but time is money, and the money ain’t mine, so this time, we do it their way. Someday I’ll have me a Headly Grange, but for now we make do and blast through recordings at a nice little studio called Fool On The Hill. It’s the Nashville way. Luckily, Trent Willmon put together a killer band and they played the hell out of the tunes.
One of the cooler moments of the studio days was when Todd Snider poked his head in our control room to say hello. I had told Tim (my manager) what a fan I was, and Todd happened to be in the B studio where we were working. Tim asked him to pop over and say hello, and he did. It was surreal. As if having Tim Dubois hanging out in studio all day and going over the songs with me wasn’t surreal enough.
We finished out overdubs on the seven songs today and only lack recording one more song. I can’t wait to get to that one either. We’re going to cut it at a friend’s home studio and take our time with it. I’ve been playing the song out for a while, it’s called “Price Of The Dream” or “Daddy Drives To Memphis”. It’s the most important song to me on the whole project and the fact we’re going to devote an entire session to that song alone makes me really happy.
As far as what we’ve got, it’s a nice collection of songs from deeply personal and reflective to straight up party jams. The latter of which I haven’t recorded very many of, but I’m all in on a couple we’ve got laid down. There is a drunken Irish rocker, an old school country crooner, a break up song, a Texas song (sort of), and a Walt Wilkins co-write that sounds like a big ‘ol hit. Now as far as what we’re going to do with them…I’m not totally sure. We’ll have them available sooner than later and a single out in Texas real soon. All I can ask for is your patience. I can’t wait to share them.
In other news, I hate to have missed Rita this weekend in Nashville. By all accounts she had a rip roaring time. It was great seeing Brian Burke and Kimberly Kelley out last week. This Wednesday I’m playing a round at Hotel Indigo at 8:30 for anybody in Nashville that might want to come check it out, then I’m off to NM for a Cowboy’s for Cancer golf tournament this Friday. I’d rather be busy than bored any day.
Well, let me pick up all the names I’ve dropped in this installment and say thanks for reading.

Can’t wait to hear the new songs, especially the Walt Wilkins tune.
