Charty, Chart Chart…

I took a few weeks off from blogging about the Texas Music Chart and they done went and changed their picture! I feel so out of the loop.

It is nice to see some new faces. Who is the guy to the right of Bart?

We have a brand spanking new #1 song in all of the land this week, but first…let’s take a look at the top five:

#5: Bo Phillips Band with “Red Dirt Girl”

This is also Bo’s first top five single. This song is a little sentimental for me because it was the very first song that was ever played live on the Shooter 929 acoustic stage. Awwwww…

^^This clip is Bo and Steve Helms on the morning show with us. They all gang up on me, but the Red Dirt Girl song is at about the 3:30 mark. If you have the time, keep listening for Steve singing “Wanted Woman” and Bo doing his infamous “Blue Dixie Cup”.^^

#4. Rich O’Toole with “Drunk Girl”

Rich cracks the top five with the four spot jump from last week.

#3. Wade Bowen with “To Live Is To Fly”.

Wade’s Guy Clark duet has been on the charts for 11 weeks and dropped one slot from last week’s chart.

#2. Aaron Watson with “Raise Your Bottle”.

Aaron held the #1 spot last week and don’t forget…all the proceeds from this song go to The Boot Campaign. You can download it from either Amazon or Itunes HERE.

#1. Reckless Kelly’s “Give It a Try”

This song tops the charts after 10 weeks.

Sigh. I am exhausted from that top five recap! I’m not sure why, but I think listening back to the clip of my first week on the air was pretty painful and now I need to recuperate. I promise I have been working on my pitch and speed. I hope I don’t sound quite as shrill as I did then. Again…I had to make this all about me.

Newbies! We have FIVE new entries this week that include:

#50: Scooter Brown Band with “Whiskey Talkin’”

You can skip to the 1:38 mark to avoid Rich O’Toole babbling about some highway.

#49: Zack Walther with “If Love Was Enough”

Looooooooooove this song. Rwar! It is a sexy little ditty.

#46: Earl Dibbles, Jr. with “The Country Boy Song”

Another sigh. I DO NOT like Earl on the charts. I even talked with him earlier today and told him that! Earl can’t be going mainstream on us…the cool part of EDJ is that he is a cult phenomenon! He got famous because he was an underground You Tube sensation, not because he was peddled by “the man” to the masses. I am just scared that Earl is going to get over exposed and have all the fun and cool sucked out of him.

#41. Jason Cassidy with “Ride of Your Life”

A song about a hot girl, beer and a backroad? Say it isn’t so. I would like to comment on how original those subjects are, but I can’t be shitty about anything that has a fiddle player named “Skittle”. Skittles and the fiddle are my two favorite things.

#32. The Band We Don’t Speak Of with “One Star Flag”

This song is also the highest debut of the week. This week it is #32 so next week it will be #1. If not next week, maybe the week after next. These things take time…like around 2 weeks.

Checklist time!

Song that took the biggest shit from last week: Cody Canada & the Departed’s “True Love Never Dies” with -179 spins.

Radio promoters that earned their money this week, not including newbies: Cody Johnson Guilty As Can Be with +137.

Bands with BAND in the name: 7

Songs by Chicks: 3, if the Spankin’s only count as 1…4 if they don’t….just like last week and the week before and the week before.
